The new program aims to provide continuous evaluation of business practices to improve and enhance operational and environmental aspects, and introduces two compasses made from recycled materials

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (Oct. 21, 2020) — Brunton, the U.S.-based manufacturer known since 1894 for precision outdoor navigation instruments, announces the Brunton ECOmpass Project, a program designed to improve business operations through sustainability efforts, manufacturing practice, well-being of personnel and the use of recycled and reclaimed materials for new compass models.

“With over 125 years of innovation and experience in manufacturing reliable navigation instruments, we’re taking what we’ve learned over the years and using that knowledge to continue evolving and improving as we grow,” says Becky Day, marketing manager for Brunton. “We’re excited about implementing the ECOmpass Project because we know that there are always ways to improve within the organization and this is our way of mapping out exactly how to implement those changes in an effective and sustainable manner.”

The Brunton ECOmpass project provides a continuous 360-degree evaluation of Brunton’s business practices to improve and enhance every aspect, from facilities and operations, to manufacturing, personnel and environmentally friendly product options. Like a compass rose, the Brunton ECOmpass Project is built around four cardinal points that guides the direction of the program—N for nature, S for society, E for economy and W for well-being—each of which address specific areas of possible improvement for the organization.

Brunton outlines the cardinal points as follows:

  • Nature: Brunton believes being outside is beneficial to everyone. Brunton will evaluate all of their business activities to reduce or eliminate impacts on natural systems. Brunton strives to preserve natural spaces.

  • Economy: Brunton must operate a healthy and sound business. Brunton relies on ethical and sustainable partnerships and engaged adventurers to ensure that their compasses are available for another 125-plus years.

  • Society: Brunton is a responsible societal partner. By enriching and inspiring each other, and those beyond their company, Brunton’s impact is greater than the sum of their own actions.

  • Well-being: Brunton impacts the wellness of those around them. Brunton will continually evaluate how to improve the well-being of their team, partners and community, through good corporate governance, knowledge-sharing and diligent practices.

Furthering their commitment to environmental initiatives, Brunton announces the addition of two eco-friendly compasses for recreational use. Available at select retailers, the 8010 ECO Compass (MSRP $34.99) is a classic scouting and route-finding compass and the Tag-Along 9045 ECO Chill Compass (MSRP $13.99) is a small compass and thermometer in one. Both will be constructed from manufacturing waste and other recycled materials such as plastic bottles, and will be made in the U.S. at the Brunton factory in Riverton, Wyo.

The new Brunton ECOmpass collection will be available January 2021 directly from Brunton.com, and through a select retail partner.
